Installing IDoBlog Community 2.0

Migrating from IDoBlog community edition 1 on IDoBlog community edition 2

Make backup the whole site including the database, this item is requires. If problems will appears you can't solve it without backup version of your site.

  1. See a blog category name in Joomla! If this section is called "blogs", then proceed to paragraph 3
  2. If not, then rename it to "blogs". Otherwise, installer does not work, IDoBlog Community 1.0 database will not be converted in new version.
  3. Uninstall IDoBlog CE 1.0 version via "Add/Remove" in the Joomla! admin panel, otherwise new version will not be installed and it receive an error.
  4. Set up IDoBlog via "Add/Remove" in the Joomla! admin panel.




  5. Then select the "Update" (button on the right), not "new installation". You should to see the message "Database successfully updated! Please recreate all menu items, which use IDoBlog. The old menu items are not compatible with the new version and will not work." If the process will unsuccessful in any reason, then type in the address bar: yoursite/administrator/index.php?option=com_idoblog&task=updatecommunity1
  6. Then re-create all the menu items that related to IDoBlog, such items as: Write a new topic, catalog of communities, etc.
  7. Validate the transfer of data on the site, if all goes not well, then contact us via special form.
  8. Check the profile settings, that all of the fields normally converted: information, friends, community ...
  9. Check the settings in IDoBlog admin panel: text alerts, configuration of file archive, etc.
  10. In the "global settings" turning on caching and check the "cache" folder, that it had permissions for writing.
  11. Remove all the old IDo modules and install new

Update IDoBlog community edition 2.0 from early builds

Method number 1

This method will affect on your IDoBlog settings like: mail notification text, writing rights policy, etc. It will not affect on profiles settings, category settings and all blogs data.

  1. Uninstall IDoBlog CE 2.0 version via "Add/Remove" in the Joomla! admin panel, otherwise new version will not be installed and it receive an error. All data will be in safe.
  2. Set up IDoBlog via "Add/Remove" in the Joomla! admin panel.
  3. Then ignore the "update database" and "new install". If you to try click "update database" or "new install" when you want to make update all blogs data will be erased.
  4. Then test how menu items works, and if they are not working re-save them (not recreate, only open for editing and click "save" if does not work, then open for editing, click "Change type", choose needed and click "save") all the necessary menu items, such as: write a new topic, catalog of communities, etc.
  5. In the "global settings" turning on caching and check the "cache" folder, that it had permissions for writing.
  6. Remove all the old IDo modules and install new.

Method number 2 (recommended)

This method will affect on your IDoBlog settings like: mail notification text, writing rights policy, etc only in case of, if you will rewrite config.php file in /administrator/com_idoblog. It will not affect on profiles settings, category settings and all blogs data.

  1. Updates all IDoBlog files via FTP. All except config.php file in /administrator/com_idoblog.
  2. Then test how menu items works, and if they are not working re-save them (not recreate, only open for editing and click "save" if does not work, then open for editing, click "Change type", choose needed and click "save") all the necessary menu items, such as: write a new topic, catalog of communities, etc.
  3. In the "global settings" turning on caching and check the "cache" foder, that it had permissions for writing.
  4. Remove all the old IDo modules and install new.

Installing IDoBlog community edition 2.0 "from scratch"

  1. Set up IDoBlog via "Add/Remove" in the Joomla! admin panel.
  2. Then choose "New database"
  3. Then create all the necessary menu items, such as: write a new topic, catalog of communities, etc.
  4. Set profile settings: information, friends, community ...
  5. Set up IDoBlog in admin panel: e-mail notifications texts, file archive, etc.
  6. In the "global settings" turning on caching and check the "cache" foder, that it had permissions for writing.
  7. Install all modules
